Most people on social media dream of going viral. But what does that really feel like? And what do you do once you go viral?
Luckily I have someone in my network who knows what it’s like and what to do. I first met Bianca Osbourne when she was a cooking expert on the daily lifestyle show I produced (The Marilyn Denis Show).
Bianca was one of our most popular cooking experts with a great personality and deep knowledge of healthy, budget-friendly meals. She built a decent brand based on broad cooking tips, working with brands, and even having her own show.
Then she began a health journey, one that sparked a new content stream @glucosetipsforthegurls on TikTok. This was a big risk. Instead of talking broadly about healthy eating, she shared her personal journey in eating for balance blood sugar.
The risk paid off. One post in the first few weeks on TikTok she had 20K followers.
But even in social media, there are no overnight success stories. The content that popped off on TikTok, cost her considerable followers on Instagram. Her TV opportunities disappeared and brand deals were limited.
She stayed true to the message that lights her up and now has nearly 300K followers across platforms. She has a thriving online business, to the point where when I asked if she needed representation in TV or brand work she said “no, I’m actually making more money with what I’m doing now”.
In this conversation, we dive deep into what it’s like to go viral, what she was thinking when she created the viral post, and the steps she took to build her brand.
